One of the greatest disciplines is to establish a foundation of an ongoing flow of communication within your organization.
If there is one thing you want to prevent it is lack of communication. Ever.
I’m sure you’ve experienced this before - a conflict arises and maybe you catch yourself or someone within your executive level getting caught up in overwhelm or tempted to avoid getting involved - thinking it will resolve itself.
Know this though - an unresolved issue and a non existing ground of communication will add a very destructive layer to any business operation.
People have said this to me my whole life... ‘You are always so grounded. Do you personally ever even experience any leadership challenges yourself?’ And let me just say - I most definitely do. I would even go as far as saying I myself am my greatest leadership challenge. In fact people who don’t know me or haven’t worked with me 1:1 would think my life has been one sparkly fairytale. Let’s just say - it was NOT.
We all know it - How you operate in your career has a direct effect on the amount of time you have for your personal life. If you’re an entrepreneur or corporate executive you know exactly what I’m talking about. Neither changing jobs nor changing how you handle your daily email inbox and calendar schedule are long-term solutions. It can be draining to say the least! All of my clients are high ranking executives or business owners and I keep being asked ‘So how does one gain space when being constantly immersed with work?’
So what's the difference anyway? If you’ve asked yourself this question before... keep on reading through my post. I promise it will all make sense in the end! I would say 99% of my clients have interacted or collaborated with unconscious businesses. Let’s just say we’ve all read the Volkswagen scandal when the veil was lifted. We know what greed, ignorance and arrogance can do to a company or society.
Choosing Consciousness over short term gain - those are the people and businesses I work with! People and leaders who choose to make a profound impact, by starting with themselves first.
Boundaries - does the word alone make you cringe?! Frankly, it used to make my eyes twitch; because who in this world enjoys saying 'NO' as a high level executive, right? It's like admitting you can't do something on our own and it's been ingrained in each one of us at a very young age, that it's perceived as 'being a winner', when doing it all by ourselves - to carry emotional and physical baggage beyond our personal limit like a champ. 'It will make you strong and prepare you for life', is probably how most of you have heard it. Truth - I myself carried this belief with me for far too long throughout my entire carrier. And it did not make me feel like a champion at all - not a single time. Let me tell you this - not anymore!
Unique in our own expression of beingness in every way.
I bet my mind is different from yours and yours is different to everyone else's. We are each unique. As an entire human being, there is only one you on this planet - and I’m not just talking about your physical appearance.
Everyone has their own beliefs, values and norms - mostly taught and gathered throughout our different upbringings. Your social, cultural, emotional, physical experiences and impressions have shaped you and made you the individual that you are today.
In times like these it truly boils down to HOW YOU SHOW UP as a leader. Allow yourself and your team a certain flexibility. There's an adjustment phase in all of our lifestyles right now due to the new given circumstances and truth is, it will look different for every single one of us.
Working with businesses, I always encourage leadership, COVID-19 or not, to give more space to their staff. There's usually a lot of fear around giving people the freedom to work in a way that suits their personality much more. It's unfamiliar and we are usually afraid of the unknown. We have been programmed to operate in a more rigid approach. Literally the second we stepped foot into kindergarten and school it all started with ‘this is how things are’.
Why does it always feel so effortless to invest in something outside of us - but investment in ourselves or our business doesn’t?
You actually are your most valuable asset! There is no business without you!
We forget that we are the ESSENCE behind everything we do and touch. And the same goes for your staff and employees. They show up and contribute their love and genius within your organization each day as well.
You will hardly ever see me make comments about the topics of public interest but this is different. I would like to write a bit this time around, as this is currently impacting everyone’s infrastructure and lives on a global scale. Conscious leaders and people around the globeare needed more than ever right now, to move us all into a new era of compassion and correspondence with one another. I truly believe every person within a leadership position and even outside are needed at the 'front' right now. That is why, I feel so inclined to reflect some of my thoughts...
